Fontalle Chianti Classico Gran Selezione
Five century of Chianti Classico history.
A fine wine that takes the name of the vine that already existed at the time when Niccolò Machiavelli was the proprietor of the Sant’Andrea Estate. Today as in the past the Fontalle vine is located close to a spring ("fontana") of the purest water which contributes to the growth of the finest Sangiovese grapes used for this Riserva.
Vivid purple color and a rich and intense bouquet with definite fruity (raspberries, blackberries) and floral (irises) hints backed by notes of vanilla and resin. The flavor is full, concentrated, very elegant and balanced with a very agreeable, lingering aftertaste of licorice and conserve.
Drink over the next 5-7 years.
Vinification and Maceration: the bunches, picked by hand at the beginning of October, were vinified with 20 days maceration and frequent pumping of the must over the cap, at 25ºC; 50% was fermented in barriques where it then remained for a year; the rest was matured for 2 years in French oak casks. After the blending, the wine was bottled and rested in glass for at last 3 months.
